Listening to the news at 4:30 a.m. yesterday morning, April 13, 2012, I learned that the dreaded North Korean missile launch had failed.  This event has sparked so much controversy over the past weeks because of the long range and nuclear capability of said missile.  Now the question in my mind is why did the missile fail?  Interestingly enough I had an inclination that maybe this was no failure on the part of the North Koreans to carry out a missile launch.  I typed a Google search for the following question:  “Who shot down North Korea’s missile?”   To my surprise I wasn’t the only one on Earth wondering the same thing.  At 6:15 a.m. this Friday morning, almost 25,000 Google hits were produced for the same query.

I doubt the general public will ever know how that missile failed but there sure is a tremendous amount of effort into the recovery of the debris.  I’m sure if the missile was brought down by outside forces, a forensic examination of the remains (if found) will determine the true cause.  If the North Koreans are successful in determining the cause of the failure was something other than their own lack of expertise, the ramifications could lead to yet another conflict.  Also, it is possible that whatever the cause, the regime could proclaim sabotage to further stir the cauldron of propaganda among their allies.

According to the Washington Post this morning, “Some officials fear that any strong reaction to the failed rocket launch could give Pyongyang a rationale to conduct a nuclear test.”  This statement further exacerbates my fears that Pyongyang will use this event to move forward with any and all means to thumb his nose at the free world and set forth his plan of intimidation.   Although I have always thought that third world countries were sorely lacking in the expertise and ability to bring to reality their threats of annihilation of the free world.  The very fact that their lack of sophistication could also be the catalyst that would bring more misery and death to the citizens of North Korea is worrisome.  A failed nuclear test or launch would surely bring horror upon the people of such a dictatorial regime.

The immediate consequence for the starving people of North Korea will be the cancellation of 240,000 tons of desperately needed American food aid.  The fact that delivery of this aid was contingent on an agreement in which the North promised to stop enriching uranium and discontinue any further nuclear or missile tests.  The agreement was put forth in February of this year.

Furthermore, I think the current Administration in Washington is making watered down statements to Pyongyang concerning the starving people of North Korea while continuing to pump aid into the regime.  This allows the government more money to carry out their agenda of arsenal building and genocide.  Recently a statement to Pyongyang from the White House accuses him of “wasting money” on weapons and propaganda, while the people are going hungry.  Does the White House think Pyongyang really cares what they think?  While we are pumping food aid into his country, American citizens are suffering at the hands of our failing economy.  Although it is a crime that these people are in the throws of a Stalinist regime that cares more for military might than for the well-being of it’s own people and I certainly don’t advocate starvation as a means of control, there comes a time when actions must be taken to curb the continuation and propagation of such tyranny.  America cannot and should not feed the world while providing our enemies with the means to direct their energy and monetary resources toward destructive military production.

America and the UN are controlled by the fear of what China would or would not do if more sanctions are incurred because of these recent actions by North Korea.  Unfortunately Americans and the rest of the free world are so afraid of China that Washington hasn’t got the guts or the where-with-all to move forward and prove that we (Americans) can and will be a force to deal with when it comes to where and how our money is spent.  Waiting around to see whether further rocket launches and nuclear testing are on the horizon is down right folly.  Are we waiting for nuclear fallout before putting a stop to the capability of deploying a nuclear devise?

So much for my ranting!  As much as I would like to believe that China is just a country somewhere in a distant part of the world and that North Korea, Iran, Pakistan and terrorism are just ripples in the cosmos, I can’t.   America is being held hostage by the dissidents of the world and our politicians of all parties have their heads in the sand.  Americans deserve better.  We deserve a government that will do what is necessary when it is necessary to protect us, to protect our troops and our monetary resources.  It’s time to feed America, to protect America and not the “world” while breaking away from outside forces that, for decades, have been allowed to consume American resources while gaining control of our decisions and actions in the process.  I believe in charity and love for my fellow man but there comes a time when the old adage “charity begins at home” must become our motto.
